El Bosque Eterno de los Niños (Children's Eternal Rainforest)
The Bosque Eterno de los Niños, known in English as Children’s Eternal Rain Forest, is a 22,500 hectare private reserve in the northwestern region of Costa Rica, created with the donations of children and adults around the world by a nonprofit organization known as Children’s Rain Forest Movement. This reserve borders the Arenal Volcano National Park, the higher part of Monteverde and the Alberto Manuel Brenes Reserve in San Ramon.
The Bosque Eterno de los Ninos is home to different species of trees and plants including orchids and bromeliads; 425 species of birds such as the three waddled bellbird and the umbrella bird; 101 species of reptiles, 60 species of amphibians and 121 species of mammals including the jaguar and the tapir.

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve
Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, 4.3miles northwest of the town of Santa Elena Costa Rica, is a 765 acre reserve with more than 7.4 miles of trails, less crowded and less developed than Monteverde Reserve and at a slightly higher elevation. Monkeys, sloth and beautiful birds including the splendid quetzal are some of the inhabitants of Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, a haven of green lushness with lots of tropical plants including big tree ferns, mosses, lichens, palm trees and bamboo.

Monteverde Reserve
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the Tilaran Mountain Range, extending down the
Caribbean and Pacific slopes. Monteverde Biological Reserve is a paradise for nature lovers and a very important protected area in Costa Rica, featuring 13 kilometers of trails divided into 9 paths. Monteverde Reserve is home to 3000 species of plants with 500 different kinds of orchids; 400 species of birds including the resplendent quetzal; more than 100 species of mammals including jaguars, ocelots and Tapirs; 120 species of amphibians and reptiles; and thousands of insect species including colorful butterflies.

Monteverde Night Tour
A night tour in the forest offers you the opportunity of seeing and hearing a different kind of wildlife that is usually more active during the night. The Monteverde night tour starts at sunset when wildlife becomes livelier due to animals that are active during the day and quiet at night start looking for a place to sleep, while nocturnal and crepuscular animals start with their activities.

Hiking Tour to the Biological Station
This is a physically demanding one day tour for real hikers. The minimum age recommended for this excursion is 15 years old and a good physical condition is required. The tour is in company of an experienced guide. The hike starts at Selvatura Park including a rest stop at the Biological Station where you will learn about their conservation efforts to continue later with your hike.

Monteverde Cheese Factory
Before Monteverde became a popular destination, the best known place in the area was the Monteverde Cheese Factory, founded in 1953 by a group of Quaker families who emigrated from the United States to Costa Rica. The factory started its operation with just 2 employees and today they have around 160 employees working there. They made their first cheese in 1954 and it was the first pasteurized cheese made in Costa Rica.
The Monteverde Cheese Factory Tour includes a guided visit through three different observation rooms that will show you the whole process to make cheese, starting with the arrival of the milk to the factory, pasteurization, quality controls and the elaboration of different cheeses. The tour also includes a slide show about Monteverde history and the beginnings of the factory. At the end of the tour you will try six of the different cheeses and one of the candies also made by the Monteverde Cheese Factory.
What to bring: comfortable shoes, camera and some money in case that you want to buy some cheese or a delicious ice-cream.
Monteverde Coffee Tour
During the Monteverde coffee tour you will learn about the history of coffee, its importance in the socioeconomic development of Costa Rica and the process to turn a coffee bean into an aromatic cup of coffee. Visit the nursery to witness the cycle of life of coffee plants. See how the coffee is picked at the coffee plantation and learn about the harvest seasons and the immigration that takes place during such seasons Learn how the coffee beans are washed, selected and then dry by the sun in a drying patio, followed by the roasting process and the packing.
During this educative tour you will not only learn about coffee but also about other Costa Rican traditions such as the use of sugar cane mills and the hand painted Costa Rican Ox Carts. See the sugar mill working, enjoy a glass of sugar cane juice and take an oxcart ride.

El Trapiche Tour
Enjoy a visit to a Costa Rican farm and learn about the history of sugar cane and how it cultivated is, try some sugar cane and things made from sugar cane. Visit a real Costa Rican farm with crops such as macadamia nuts, oranges, sugar cane, bananas, coffee and “arracache” which is a tuber usually served hashed and mixed with spices and grounded beef. In the farm grounds there is also a Tilapia pond and some forested areas where wildlife can be spotted.
See a sugar cane mill operated by oxen, learn about other traditional artifacts used in Costa Rica, such as the wooden stove, the marimba and the pilon (kind of a very big mortar and pestle), see how the sugar cane liquor is made and end your tour with a delicious “gallo de arracache” and a coffee or “agua dulce” (drink made from sugar cane).

Monteverde Bat Jungle Tour
The Monteverde Bat Jungle tour takes place at Paseo de Stella’s live bat exhibit, featuring 11 species of free-flying bats, as well as interactive and stationary exhibits.
Monteverde Butterfly Garden
Monteverde Butterfly Garden, Costa Rica, is located in Cerro Plano, between Santa Elena and Monteverde. The Butterfly Garden Monteverde features four butterfly gardens representing different habitats in Costa Rica. The Monteverde Train is a scale replica of an old-time train with three
16-passenger cars. The train is powered by electricity and rides on
about 6 kilometers of track. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes to
pass through open areas, rain forest, four bridges, and a tunnel. You
will reach a lookout point where, weather permitting, you can see the
Arenal Lake, the Arenal Volcano and impressive surrounding forest.

Selvatura Canopy Tour
The Selvatura Canopy tour has three main sections that total 2 miles and lasts a little more than 2 hours. You will take short walks between main sections to access the 12 cables, 18 platforms, and one Tarzan swing.
